INFLUENCE PEOPLE IN POWER AND WORKERS HAD ON CHANGE

At first, people who showed signs of rebellion were fired by employees without hesitation. When large numbers of workers from different areas started uniting to increase their dominance over business owners, employers were indeed overwhelmed. There was a possibility that strikes could take place and numerous people could stop working to revolt against the companies, so to ensure that their businesses didn’t collapse due to employees not working, business owners had no choice but to give into the demands of the workers. There were reformers during the Industrial Revolution who supported trade unions and their ideas. Robert Owen was a Welsh reformer who believed in social equality and rights for workers. Unlike many others, he was concerned about the welfare of his workers, set an example and sought to give them the care and facilities they needed. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels were both social scientists and political activists who studied the poor conditions in which industrial workers worked and foresaw and supported their revolt. The Tolpuddle Martyrs were a group of agricultural workers who were arrested for swearing an oath to a trade union. Their case attracted the public eye and they earned considerable sympathy and support from the general public. This put pressure on people in power to make changes in order to stay in favour of the public and retain power. Reformers who wanted change spread their ideas and people that agreed with their ideas looked for ways to contribute to change like that for the better of their people.
